amy winehouse

i read the news of amy winehouse's death this weekend via twitter. the first thought that came to my mind was "well, it was only a matter of time". it's such a sad thing when someone who's clearly talented passes away. when i first heard her version of "will you still love me tomorrow", i was blown away. i loved the quality of her voice, it was like listening to music from the 60s or 70s.

i'm no psychologist and i don't know what her real issues are, but i can never understand why anyone would ever take drugs (note: officially, drugs is not yet pointed as the cause of her death, but let's be real, maybe it had a lot to do with it). there is no valid reason, except for illness, of course, that anyone should take drugs. well one can say the same thing about cigarettes and alcohol, but let's focus on drugs for now. why would you want to take something that alters your state of mind so completely. why can't you face whatever issues you have, deal with it and move on?

for artists, ie. musicians, actors, painters, etc, sometimes i wonder: do drugs fuel their talent? if they're on a high, does it make them create better songs, better movies, better art? would their work be less spectacular if they weren't on drugs? and by the way, what are all the important people around these artists' lives doing, like their family and friends?

remember britney spears' meltdown a couple of years back? i was so glad that her father stepped in and got rid of her manager/publicist and started to take over her affairs. look at where she is now. well i'm not sure if she's still on something, but she looks great and her career is going up again.

amy winehouse had a promising career ahead of her. it's so tragic to lose one more talented person in the world. but she created good music, that i'm sure is going to be listened to for years to come.

one word: sayang! (what a waste!)
